Public Meetings Scheduled for Minot Air Force Base and Missile Complex Compatible Use Study

The City of Minot, in partnership with the Minot Area Chamber EDC and Minot Air Force Base, will host three public meetings in November to share preliminary findings from the Minot Air Force Base and Missile Complex Compatible Use Study (CUS) and to ask residents whether those findings reflect conditions in their communities.

The CUS is an update to the 2015 Minot Air Force Base Joint Land Use Study. The City has retained HR Green to lead the update, which examines land-use patterns, development trends, and potential compatibility issues across the installation and its 8,500-square-mile missile complex.

Since the study began, the project team has analyzed existing conditions and coordinated with local jurisdictions, the MHA Nation, and Minot Air Force Base. The November meetings bring that analysis back to the public for review before recommendations are drafted.

What the Project Team Will Present

The presentation will focus on the compatibility issues that appear most important for the updated CUS, including land use and future growth, infrastructure extensions, transportation, energy development, vertical obstructions, housing, public services, and community resilience. The presentation will cover how each factor relates to long-term compatibility between Minot AFB and surrounding communities.

The team will also explain their review of the 2015 Joint Land Use Study, including which strategies remain relevant, which may need to be revised, which may be replaced by newer coordination tools or regulations, or which may no longer require a separate CUS recommendation.

Public Input Opportunities

At each meeting, community members can:

  • See the preliminary findings and how they were developed
  • Ask the project team questions
  • Confirm or correct findings based on local experience
  • Identify missing local context or implementation considerations

Each meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. with a presentation from the project team, followed by discussion and questions. Attendees are encouraged to arrive at the start time. All meetings are free and open to the public; no registration is required.

Next Steps

Input gathered at the November meetings will be used to refine the preliminary findings and inform the development of Draft CUS recommendations, which will be brought back to the community for review.
