Census Results Released
In August, the U.S. Census Bureau released some of its findings from the 2020 Census. Although the data that they released is intended for redrawing federal and state legislative district boundaries, the city is able to learn that Minot grew by 18.3% over the past 10 years from a population of 40,880 to 48,377. The city didn't reach the ultimate goal of 50,000 residents, but it certainly puts them in a position to reach that figure with the next few years.

Since the beginning of 2020, the city office has issued building permits for 247 new residential units (143) single-family and 104 multi-family) that are either under construction right now or been occupied since the completion of the census Assuming an average of 2.3 people per housing unit, their current housing projects will push our population right up to the brink of 49,000.

The city of Minot is thankful to all of those who helped with the census kiosks last summer at Marketplace Foods. This attracted close to 1,100 people (really households) to use the kiosk. That alone accounted for about 2,500 people in the census.

During what was probably the most unique and challenging census in our country's history, the Complete Count Committee worked to pivot from the plans. Although the city did not reach the goal, they are optimistic that they can reach it in just a few years.
